The awkward thing about stevia is how easily a little becomes too much. A mug that needed a touch of sweetness can end up with a lingering flavor you were not looking for. I would begin with the tea itself, then reach for the sweetener.
You can add stevia to green tea, but there is no reliable teaspoon measure that works for every product. Drops, concentrated powders and spoonable blends are different preparations. Use the package directions as your starting point.

Why one stevia measure does not fit every brand
Some products combine stevia-derived sweeteners with other ingredients. Read the ingredient list and the stated equivalent to sugar. A teaspoon of a blend is not interchangeable with a teaspoon of concentrated powder.
The FDA's guide to high-intensity sweeteners explains why these ingredients can be used in much smaller amounts than sugar. It also distinguishes certain purified steviol glycosides from whole stevia leaves and crude extracts. The name of the plant is not the whole product description.
A small-cup method
- Brew the green tea and remove the leaves or bag.
- Take a plain sip once the tea is comfortable to drink.
- Add the smallest practical amount suggested by your sweetener's directions.
- Stir thoroughly, taste again, and stop before adding another dose automatically.
If that smallest amount overwhelms the cup, choose a product that allows finer dosing next time. Do not use another brand's conversion chart to guess the strength of yours.
What if the tea still has an aftertaste?
Taste an unsweetened cup on another occasion. That helps separate bitterness from the leaves and the lingering taste of the sweetener. If the plain tea is already harsh, change the brew using these bitter-tea adjustments. Adding more stevia may simply give you bitterness and sweetness together.
If you do not like the result, you need not train yourself to enjoy it. Try a different tea with a softer flavor; naturally sweet-tasting green teas are one route. Or compare the small, gradual additions in the honey guide, remembering that honey adds sugar. These are taste choices, not treatments or weight-loss tricks.
